Ever wondered the question, why is the semiconductor industry called semiconductor? Why are chips, integrated circuits and semiconductors linked?
In fact, semiconductor in the most primitive time is a material, such as silicon. Later, these semiconductor materials were used to make integrated circuits, which were then packaged into chips. But the name semiconductor has been retained, so we usually replace these with the word semiconductor.
Now it’s time to talk about the most basic unit in a semiconductor: the ‘PN junction’. The now recognised basis of semiconductor theory was and is the PN junction theory of 1949. The real diode and CMOS theory came later.
We mainly talk about diode. The triode is an extension of the diode, and we’ll talk about it briefly at the end.
As I talked about in the first issue, semiconductors started out as elements that were just between a conductor and an insulator, like silicon. So what are the characteristics of this semiconductor?
